Medical abortion is the termination of pregnancy in order to preserve the health of the mother before the fetus reaches birth. Medical abortions have physical, psychological, social, and economic effects on the lives of women. While physical problems such as hemorrhage, cervical laceration, uterine perforation, infection, endometritis, endoparametritis, and thrombophlebitis may easily be observed, psychological problems like depression, anxiety, helplessness, and guilt may be experienced and not recognized after medical abortion. While healthcare professionals closely follow physical problems, they may sometimes neglect psychological problems more (McCoy, 2007).
