Redox-sensitive transcription factors EGR-1 and SP1 IN the pathogenesis of experimental gastric ulcer

Abstract: Changes in redox status of gastric mucosa cells are the main pathogenic factor of gastric erosion and gastric ulcer development. Pro-oxidants can affect cell transcription activity via changes in redox-sensitive transcription factors. Egr-1 and Sp-1 may regulate the transcription of genes that are associated with the pathogenesis of gastric ulcer (growth factors, cell cycle regulators, etc.). The aim of the present study was to reveal the possible involvement of zinc-finger transcription factors Egr-1 & Sp-1 i… Show more

“…As such, we thus focused our attentions on transcription factors that have been reported downstream of TLR4, hemin-induced, and have been reported to be redox regulated. Both Sp1 and NF-κB fit these parameters and reports suggest a cooperative action between these two factors in gene regulation [ [50] , [51] , [52] , [53] , [54] ]. In addition, hemin has been shown to activate NF-κB via TLR4 in the liver of sickle cell mice [ 55 ].…”

“…To investigate the role of the peripheral dopaminergic system in the development of ulcerative colitis in rats, MPTP (1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine) model was used (Sigma, USA) [18]. One week prior to the beginning of the experiment rats were settled in separate cages for adaptation and catecholamine level stabilization.…”
