Reduced-Order Small-Signal Model of Microgrid Systems

Abstract: The objective of this study was to develop a reducedorder small-signal model of a microgrid system capable of operating in both the grid-tied and the islanded conditions. The nonlinear equations of the proposed system were derived in the dq reference frame and then linearized around stable operating points to construct a small-signal model. The high-order state matrix was then reduced using the singular perturbation technique. The dynamic equations were divided into two groups based on the small-signal model p… Show more

“…Although, a comprehensive model of a microgrid provides accurate dynamic characteristics of the grid, it is very complex and increases the computational burden of the designed controller and power management strategy. Therefore, reduced-order model of microgrids is used [89][90] to address the associated issues of complex comprehensive model. It is shown in Ref.…”

“…After a number of distributed power supplies are connected to the existing distribution networks, electric energy quality problems may be caused, such as deviations of the grid voltage and frequency, voltage fluctuation and so on, all of which seriously endanger the safe and reliable operation of the grid. In order to coordinate the conflicts between a large grid and distributed generation and to sufficiently explore the efficiencies of distributed power supplies, CERTS brought forward the concept of a microgrid in the beginning of this century [1]- [3].…”
