“…In their natural environment, fishes of the family Esocidae are territorial and less aggressive toward others when widely dispersed in a water body. In a hatchery setting, it is often beneficial to take the opposite approach and stock them at a very high density to reduce the establishment of territories (Hecht and Pienaar 1993; Naumowicz et al 2017; Qiu et al 2022). Artificially increasing the turbidity of rearing tanks has several benefits for raising larval predators, including reduced cannibalism and side clinging behavior in Walleye (Clayton et al 2009).…”

“…Research on Striped Bass culture has been ongoing since the 1960s, and considerable information is available about their nutrition (Dougall et al 1996; Small and Soares 1998; Small and Soares 2000), feeding (Hung et al 1993; Kenter and Berlinsky 2022; Kenter et al 2022), health (Harms et al 1996), pond culture methodologies (Geiger and Parker 1985; Geiger and Turner 1990), larval rearing techniques (Geiger and Parker 1985; Martin‐Robichaud and Peterson 1998; Qiu et al 2022), stress mitigation (Harrell 1992; Kenter et al 2019), and reproduction (Hodson and Sullivan 1993; Weber et al 2000; Jenkins‐Keeran and Woods 2002; Clark et al 2005; Andersen et al 2021a, 2021b). Marine‐harvested Striped Bass, unlike hybrid Striped Bass (White Bass Morone chrysops × Striped Bass M. saxatilis ) that are grown in freshwater ponds extensively throughout the southern and Midwestern states, are preferred by consumers in many coastal states and lucrative ethnic markets, seafood restaurants, and sushi bars.…”
