Reducing perceived vulnerability to increase utilization of nonprofit services

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this study is to understand how perceived vulnerability reduces consumers’ willingness to utilize services offered by nonprofit organizations (NPOs). Design/methodology/approach Three online surveys were conducted across two research contexts to test the proposed model. Hayes’ PROCESS was used to analyze the data. Findings Perceived vulnerability decreases the perception of relational benefits, which in turn decrease consumers’ commitment to NPOs. Reduced commitment lessens consumers… Show more

“…The “PROCESS” macro is a widely used computational tool for moderation analysis that produces estimates of all the coefficients in the model and generates bootstrap sampling distributions and interval of confidence for the moderation (two-way interaction) and moderated moderation (three-way interaction) through a resampling process with the bias-corrected bootstrapping technique (5,000 bootstrap samples) ( Hayes, 2018b ; Wang et al, 2018 ; Tanner and Su, 2019 ; Wei et al, 2019 ).…”

“…In terms of external perceived ability, individuals have different abilities to perceive, find, and approach healthcare services. When the older adults use healthcare services, the perceived vulnerability will weaken the satisfaction [ 29 ], reduce the frequency of using healthcare services and the interaction with healthcare personnel [ 30 ]. The older adults will miss some healthcare services that are beneficial to them, thereby reducing the potential accessibility of healthcare services.…”

“…Vulnerability is inherently complex, and is not a static entity. There is a spatialtemporal element to vulnerability research in which different aspects of vulnerability become dominant at different times and in different places (Nienaber, Hofeditz, & Romeike, 2015;Stankov & Tsochev, 2020;Tanner & Su, 2019).…”
