Reduction in nitrogen fertilizer applications by the use of polymer‐coated urea: effect on maize yields and environmental impacts of nitrogen losses

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Urea is commonly over-applied as a nitrogen (N) fertilizer to crops in southern China and has a low utilization efficiency as a result of the high precipitation and high temperatures in this region. This has led to a need to optimize the management of N fertilizer use in maize crops on the subtropical hilly uplands of southern China. 0-30%, the NH 3 loss was significantly reduced by 12.7-36.1%. CONCLUSION:The findings of the present study suggest that the use of PCU could allow a reduction in the a… Show more

“…In this study, the denitrification losses occurred for summer maize due to the higher N content and high temperature. Xie et al [51] found that a 10% reduction of application SRF led to lower N 2 O emissions. Lower N losses were obtained when N fertilizer application was divided into an appropriate ratio of basal and topdressing N. In this case, though fertilizer applied once in maize can reduce labor input, N loss was higher compared to split fertilization.…”

“…Recent results showed that the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome can be modulated as well by miRNAs, non-coding RNAs that target mRNA and, as a result, reduce transcripts with consequent effect on protein production. miR-7-5p, miR-22-3p, miR-30e and miR-223-3p, in particular, were shown to bind a highly conserved region of the 3 UTR of NLRP3 mRNA and interfere with protein translation [23], thus reducing NLRP3 activation [24].…”

“…Soil column NH 3 fluxes were measured twice each day (9:00 to 11:00 and 15:00 to 17:00) using the continuous air-flow enclosure method described in detail by Yong Xie and others ( 2019 ). The determination of NH 3 fluxes was conducted for 20 days.…”
