Reduction of graphene oxide with l-lysine to prepare reduced graphene oxide stabilized with polysaccharide polyelectrolyte

Abstract: An environmentally friendly approach to reduce graphene oxide (GO) with L-lysine (L-Lys) was developed by using carboxymethyl starch (CMS) as a stabilizing agent and a stable suspension of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) was obtained. UV visible absorption spectroscopy was used to monitor the deoxygenating process and the factors that affect the GO reduction, such as the ratio of GO/L-Lys, the temperature and pH were optimized. The reduction of the GO was verified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Xray … Show more

“…Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) is the reduction product of graphene oxide (an oxygen-abundant material produced by the controlled oxidation of graphite [27]). Reduced graphene oxide has some excellent properties like high mechanical strength and a large surface area [28], but most importantly, rGO is oleophylic [29], which makes it a good material for hydrophobic modification.…”

“…They are usually obtained by the oxidative exfoliation of graphite, while their subsequent reduction results in the synthesis of a number of reduced graphene oxides (RGO) of different C:O ratios. Both GO and RGO form stable cryogels suitable for unidirectional ice crystallization [173,221,223]. As-obtained 3D porous monoliths are good supports for the nanocrystalline gold and silver catalysts [173].…”

“…First of all, the graphene oxide-based materials (GO) have enhanced sorption activities [221][222][223] and good catalytic properties [224,225]. They are usually obtained by the oxidative exfoliation of graphite, while their subsequent reduction results in the synthesis of a number of reduced graphene oxides (RGO) of different C:O ratios.…”

“…In other work, L-Lysine was successfully used for reduction of graphene oxide in the presence of carboxymethyl starch (CMS) as stabilizing agent. The rGO suspension exhibited good dispersion stability in water [44]. Furthermore, L-aspartic acid has been employed for synthesizing rGO, the product obtained by this process also presents uniform separation in water as well as good electrical conductivity of~700 S/m [45].…”
