Reduction of speckle noise in holographic images using spatial jittering in numerical reconstructions

Abstract: This Letter presents an easy, fast, and efficient single-shot method to reduce speckle noise in digital Fresnel holography. In this method, several images from a single hologram are reconstructed by introducing spatial displacements in the Fresnel kernel. Spatial jitters produce images with different speckle positions. Averaging the set of numerically produced images leads to a strong reduction of speckle noise in both amplitude and phase difference images. The experimental results show the suitability of the … Show more

“…Digital holographic imaging has demonstrated to be an efficient approach for the measurement of deformation fields and shapes of any object surface. 4,5 Holographic imaging provides highly contrasted amplitude images 6 and phase data for accurate metrology. 7 In the holographic process, the complex-valued object field is numerically reconstructed from the recorded hologram.…”

“…This requirement also introduces inherent coherent imaging effects in the reconstructed images. In earlier work, the use of low spatial coherent sources [14][15][16], multiplexing holograms methods [17][18][19], image processing methods [20,21], and hybrid methods [22,23] have been studied to improve the imaging quality. In our investigation, we look into a hybrid method of the use of a super continuum source combined with image processing method for coherent imaging effects reduction.…”
