Reductive N–N coupling of NO molecules on transition metal complexes leading to N2O

Abstract: for the active site of the metalloenzyme have been developed. These complexes also showed NOR activity. Finally, an NO reduction cycle in the diruthenium system is described.

“…Of particular relevance to this Forum Article is the proposed intermediacy of the hyponitrite moiety, [N 2 O 2 ] 2-, during the reduction of nitric oxide. This moiety is known to bind to metal ions to form discrete, well-defined coordination complexes, 42 suggesting a role for homogenous model systems in the efforts to evaluate the proposed mechanisms of NO x reduction. However, the hyponitrite ligand is poorly understood, in part, because there is not yet a rational, broadly applicable method for generating and ligating this moiety to a transition metal ion.…”

“…In 1987, • NO was discovered to be formed by enzymatic reactions in a variety of mammalian cells [83]. This has led to numerous biological chemistry studies on this molecule [82,[84][85][86][87][88][89][90][91]. The generation of • NO at low physiological levels is involved in processes such as blood pressure modulation, immune system control, peristalsis, and neurotransmission [92][93][94][95][96].…”

“…This is due to the fact that the energies of these two transitions are independent of the crystal field splitting energy and depends only on parameters B and C 53 . The values for Dq could be evaluated with the help of the curve transition energy versus Dq, given by Orgel, using an energy level due to transition 6A1g  4T1g.…”
