Reference range evaluation of complete blood count parameters with emphasis on newer research parameters on the complete blood count analyzer Sysmex XE-2100

Abstract: Since the advent of automation in the field of hematological cell counters there has been a constant refinement of the technology and increase in the number of newer parameters available on CBC analysers. Many novel parameters are being put into routine clinical use and both clinical evaluation and monitoring critically depend on knowledge of laboratory reference ranges. Here, we present reference interval for the Sysmex XE-2100, with emphasis on the novel or newer research parameters. Blood samples from a tot… Show more

“…After removing 20 statistical outliers, the platelet indices of 2356 individuals (791 males and 1565 females; age range from 16 to 91 years), with all FBC parameters within the local reference ranges, were analysed on the Sysmex XN-10 analyzer. The distribution of all platelet indices was Gaussian, showing approximately normally distributed histograms and QQ plots by visual examination; hence, a parametric method (mean ± 2SD) was used to calculate the reference intervals for all platelet indices 21 …”

“…Independent t -tests were performed to determine whether there was a statistical significance between platelet indices in males and females. The P value ≤0.05 was adopted to denote statistical significance 21 …”

“…Although the reference ranges applicable to research-related items in the XE-2100 and reference range for immature platelet fraction (IPF) in the new XN-2000 analyzer with large study population were analyzed in the previous studies [ 4 5 ], the establishment of age- and gender-specific reference ranges for all 36 routine and 57 CPD items in the new XN-2000 analyzer has not been performed. Therefore, we established age- and gender-specific reference ranges for the routine CBC and CPD items in the new Sysmex XN-2000.…”

“…Performing many tests leads not only to increased cost for patients, but some of the tests used for detecting iron deficiency have a limited value in presence of infection and malignancy [15]. Ret-He can be used as a single, rapid, and cost-effective test for determining iron status [16][17][18]. Many studies have been conducted in the past establishing effectiveness of Ret-He in diagnosing iron deficiency in patients suffering from different disorders.…”
