Refining the cutoff 3d gravity/$$ T\overline{T} $$ correspondence

Abstract: Pure gravity in AdS3 is a theory of boundary excitations, most simply expressed as a constrained free scalar with an improved stress tensor that is needed to match the Brown-Henneaux central charge. Excising a finite part of AdS gives rise to a static gauge Nambu-Goto action for the boundary graviton. We show that this is the $$ T\overline{T} $$ T T ¯ deformation of the infinite volume theory, as th… Show more

“…Therefore, deformations of the 3d Maxwell Lagrangian -such as the stress tensor flow which produces the Born-Infeld theory that was presented in the preceding subsection -do not exhibit the usual properties for deformations of CFTs which are often used when studying perturbations of this kind. An especially useful example of such a property is the so-called trace flow equation, which plays a role in many places in the T T literature, including in cutoff AdS 3 holography [70][71][72][73][74][75] and in 4d T T -like flows [48]. We now review and extend this result.…”

“…[50] for a review). The quantization method developed in [51][52][53] could also offer an alternative approach. The present formulation of T T + Λ 2 could also provide a handle for realizing the recent proposals for dS holography in [54,55].…”

“…where again ρ > 0 is the radial coordinate with asymptotic boundary at ρ and x a = (t, φ) are the coordinate on the boundary with φ ∼ φ + 2π. As before we will use the coordinates w = t + φ and w = −t + φ for convenience 24 .…”

“…Solving this can be quite laborious, and one still needs to compute the potential Θ for Ω. For the class of examples that arise in AdS 3 gravity with various boundary conditions, it is possible to bypass all this and pass directly from the conserved (angular)momentum and Hamiltonian to the boundary action, as was employed in the example of cutoff AdS 3 gravity in [21] leading to a boundary Nambu-Goto action, whose origin was clarified in [24].…”
