In disaster prevention, it is important to know the liquid level, and various methods for sensing it have been proposed. In this letter, a liquid‐level sensor using a floating microbial fuel cell (FMFC) was developed. Since FMFC extracts electrical energy from the liquid, this sensor is power‐free. The liquid level sensor has a selectable resolution, and in this experiment, measurements were taken in 5‐cm increments. In addition, no effect on sensing performance was observed even when the properties of the solution to be measured changed. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineer of Japan and Wiley Periodicals LLC.
