Reflection and transmission of plane elastic waves at the boundary between piezoelectric materials and water

Abstract: Reflection and transmission coefficients for plane elastic waves obliquely incident on the boundary between two isotropic materials have been known for some time. The solution for anisotropic materials, however, has not been fully treated in the literature. Here we derive these coefficients for the case of a piezoelectric ceramic in contact with water. This problem is of significant practical interest, since in a variety of applications, piezoelectric ceramics, which are inherently anisotropic, are used as tra… Show more

“…If θ (0) > θ cr , the reflected QP wave is a wave propagating along the x-axis, and the amplitude decays with the depth into the MEE medium (decreasing z). For this surface-type wave, the component cos θ (1) becomes i(c…”

“…The reflection and refraction of plane waves in piezoelectric anisotropic materials have been mentioned in the texts of Auld [2], Dieulesaint and Royer [3], and Parton and Kudryavtsev [4]. Noorbehesht and Wade [5] obtained the analytical expressions for reflection and transmission coefficients of the waves at a boundary between piezoelectric materials and water and studied the effects of angle of incidence and material properties on these coefficients. Auld [6] studied the wave propagation in piezoelectric materials.…”
