Reflection and transmission of weakly inhomogeneous anisotropic and bianisotropic layers calculated by perturbation method

Abstract: With the use of perturbation theory the zero- and higher-order approximations are obtained for characteristic matrices, reflection and transmission operators, scalar reflectance and transmittance of monochromatic electromagnetic waves impinging on a transparent weakly inhomogeneous stratified bianisotropic medium. The proposed procedure of perturbation series formation enables finding the corrections to the reflection and transmission factors in closed form for specified coordinate dependencies for the materia… Show more

“…Many optical properties of the media with permittivity tensor of such a form were considered in [24,25,27,41,[43][44][45][46][47]. In the particular case α = β and y = 0, this permittivity tensor describes the electromagnetic properties of C * -smectics, whose optical characteristics were studied in [17].…”

“…We restrict ourselves to the case of scattering by a helical medium with permittivity tensor invariant under translations in the (x, y) plane. In the particular case of C * -smectics, such an analysis was carried out in [17], see also [45]. The mode functions in the expansion (24) take the form…”

“…Concept of refraction in a more general anisotropic media which can have negative or positive permeability and permittivity tensors have been investigated in [15]. There has been some study on the derivation of Fresnel coefficients for also layered and single layer biaxially anisotropic media, metamaterials, bianisotropic and gyrotropic materials [16][17][18][19][20][21][22].…”
