Refractive Index Profile and Luminescence Properties of Dy3+‐doped Ge20Ga5Sb10S65 Glass after Electric Field‐Assisted Silver Diffusion

Abstract: Solid state electric field‐assisted diffusion has been widely applied to oxide glasses to make buried waveguides but rarely employed in chalcogenide glasses. We have previously fabricated Ag‐doped Ge20Ga5Sb10S65 glasses by electric field‐assisted diffusion and studied the Ag+ concentration profiles. However, the optical properties after the silver diffusion were left unexplored. In this article, we use the “scratch method” by atomic force microscopy to investigate the refractive index profile of Dy3+‐doped Ge2… Show more

“…Light amplification at similar O -band wavelengths can be also achieved for Pr 3+ or Dy 3+ doped fluoride and ChG glasses of very low phonon energy. In comparison, the FOM of the ZGO-0.15GC is less than that of Pr 3+ doped Ge-Ga-S ChG glass (4.79 × 10 −24  cm 2 ·s) 42 , however, it is much larger than in the case of Pr 3+ doped ZBLAN (0.38 × 10 −24  cm 2 ·s) and Dy 3+ doped Ge-Ga-S ChG glasses (1.4 × 10 −24  cm 2 ·s) 43, 44 . Moreover, the present GCs are superior to rare-earth doped glasses in terms of the availability of a broad tuning range of wavelength.…”

“…D 0 is proportional to the square of a mean jump distance and a mean vibration frequency. Thus such a low value of D 0 comparing with silica glasses and TeO 2 -WO 3 glasses [2,13] indicates that lanthanum containing one has an increased mean jump distance for the diffused silver ions. As it described above La 3+ ions are characterized by the high ionic field strength with oxygen therefore the concentration of vacancies created by the breaking non-bridging oxygen bonds is significantly reduced in the considered glass matrix.…”
