Protection of the stream of metal from reacting with the surrounding atmosphere in teeming steel in a continuous billet casting machine is one of the necessary conditions for obtaining high-quality metal by decreasing the quantity of nonmetallic and gas inclusions. In addition, protection of the stream of metal provides a saving in deoxidizers, an improvement in working conditions in the teeming area, and a decrease in clogging of the submerged nozzles [i, 2].
