Regenerated Cellulose Fibers Prepared from Wheat Straw with Different Solvents

Abstract: Wheat straw cellulose (WSC) was simply isolated by delignification and hemicellulose‐removal processes, and then dissolved in five non‐derivatizing solvents, including N, N‐dimethylacetamide /lithium chloride, N‐methylmorpholine‐N‐oxide, 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride, 1‐allyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride and 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium acetate, to prepare regenerated cellulose fibers with wet spinning method. The results showed that WSC could be completely dissolved in all of the five solvents, and the … Show more

“…Crystallinity index was measured by X-ray diffraction (XRD) using Ni-filtered CuKa radiation at 40 kV and 30 mA. The crystallinities of the specimens were calculated by the ratio of areas under crystalline peaks and amorphous curve according to previous publications [32,33]. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was performed on a simultaneous thermal analyzer DTG-60 (Shimadzu, Kyoto, Japan).…”

“…Figure 4 b sheds light on the fact that the BF sample has a squamous structure on its surface with few irregular pores, protrusions and cracks. These pores can be ascribed as typical characteristics of the regenerated cellulose fibers [ 46 , 47 ] and provide the fibers with good air permeability. It is obvious that the smoothness is significantly improved after the addition of urea.…”
