Registration of ‘Crystal’ Hop

Abstract: The parentage of Brawn is 'Coker 227'//'Clintford'/'Portal'/ 3/'Ogle'/4/'Don'. The experimental line IL 85-6264 was first selected as an F5 plant row that originated from a single panicle selected from an F4 bulk grown in the field at Urbana in 1984. The Fz and F3 generations of the bulk population were grown in the greenhouse using modified single-seed descent. The line designated IL 85-6264 was reselected in the F6 by selecting a single plant row grown from a single panicle. This reselected line, designated … Show more

“…'Nugget', 'Galena', and 'Magnum', all have 'Brewer's Gold' in their pedigrees, while 'Target' has contributions from both Brewer's Gold and a male seedling developed from an unknown native American genotype. The male Genotype 21110M derives from 'Bullion' (Haunold et al, 1984;Neve, 1972;Romanko et al, 1979). Brewer's Gold and Bullion are sister genotypes developed by Salmon (1934Salmon ( , 1938 via open pollination of the native American female BB1.…”

“…Field‐based observations of USDA 21267M showed it having susceptibility to downy mildew infection similar to the cultivars ‘Crystal’ (Haunold et al, 1995), Wye ‘Target’, and Comet. Under normal growing conditions, early downy mildew infections should be controlled with a combination of pruning and fungicides registered for use on hop.…”

“…USDA Triumph was obtained from a cross made in 2000 between USDA Nugget (Haunold, Likens, et al., 1984) and USDA 21110M. USDA Nugget originated from a cross made in 1970 between ‘USDA 65009′ (Haunold, Nickerson, et al., 1984) and ‘USDA 63015M' (Haunold et al., 1983) and was released in 1983. USDA 21110M originated from a cross made in 1970 between ‘Bullion’ and ‘USDA 64035M’ (Haunold et al., 1985).…”
