“…Although considered a runner peanut, Southwest runner has an extremely erect growth habit and thus an open canopy instead of the dense canopy required for disease progression. Thus, the absence of the 145 bp band in the Southwest Runner genome could be explained by physiological resistance since one of the parents of this cultivar is of Spanish decent (Kirby et al 1998). Table 2 shows the correlation of the resistant marker band with Sclerotinia blight resistance and the eVect of market type.…”

“…Tamspan 90 (32) is a spanish cultivar with both architectural and physiologic partial resistance (1). Southwest Runner (22) is a runner-type cultivar with sparsely arranged large leaves and a prominently erect main stem that is susceptible in detached stem and seedling inoculations in the greenhouse. Both Tamspan 90 and Southwest Runner are consistently among the most resistant cultivars in field evaluations.…”

“…The cultivars Tamspan 90, Southwest Runner, Okrun, and Flavor Runner 458 were utilized in this study. Tamspan 90, a spanish market type, and Southwest Runner, a runner market type, have moderate resistance to S. minor (Smith et al, 1991b; Kirby et al, 1998). Okrun and Flavor Runner 458 were included as susceptible runner type peanut with good agronomic qualities (Banks et al, 1989).…”
