Regulation of the Physical Characteristics of Titania Nanotube Aggregates Synthesized from Hydrothermal Treatment

Abstract: Titania nanotube aggregates with different porosities were prepared from hydrothermal treatment on commercial TiO 2 particles in NaOH followed by HCl washing. Pore structure analysis reflects that pores of smaller sizes are mainly contributed by the nanotubes while those of larger sizes are contributed by the interspace region of the aggregates. The hydrothermal treatment temperature, ranging within 110-150 °C, was shown to affect not only the extent of particle-to-sheet conversion, and thus the resulting stru… Show more

“…After calcination at 450 C for 2 h, the TiO 2 nanotubes transformed to anatase, which was in good agreement with other studies. [17][18][19] Figure 2 shows the TEM images of the starting material and the prepared TiO 2 nanotubes. It can be seen the starting material exhibits nanoparticles type and the mean diameters are about 20 nm.…”

“…4 (b). The pores ranging from ∼10 nm to more than 100 nm are mainly attributed to the interstitial spaces within the nanowire aggregates [40]. Note that there might be some co-existing nanotubes (in general, typical internal pore-size is ca.…”

“…7) The intensity of reflections for hydrothermally modified TiO 2 structures is considerably less, while the half-width is higher than the analogical parameters of TiO 2 TC model. It is caused by insufficient crystallization of structures [28] and small amount of layers in the walls of nanotubes [29].…”
