Regulatory Mechanism of Nicotine Degradation in Pseudomonas putida

Abstract: Nicotine, a toxic and addictive alkaloid from tobacco, is an environmental pollutant in areas near cigarette production facilities. Over the last decade, our group has studied, in depth, the pyrrolidine pathway of nicotine degradation in Pseudomonas putida S16. However, little is known regarding whole mechanism(s) regulating transcription of the nicotine degradation pathway gene cluster. In the present study, we comprehensively elucidate an overall view of the NicR2-mediated two-step mechanism regulating 3-suc… Show more

“…These species belonged to the genera Pseudomonas , Delftia , Acinetobacter , Enterobacter , Stenotrophomonas , Klebsiella , Chryseobacterium , Exiguobacterium , Lactococcus , Brevibacterium , Kocuria , Methylorubrum , Roseomonas , and Sphingobacterium . Of them, Pseudomonas , Delftia , Stenotrophomonas , Klebsiella , Brevibacterium , and Sphingobacterium were already reported as nicotine degraders ( Ruan et al, 2006 ; Ma, 2012 ; Sabourmoghaddam et al, 2015 ; Gaekwad and Vinchurkar, 2018 ; Hu et al, 2019 ).…”

“…There are various reports of nicotine degradation by different bacterial genera including Delftia, Klebsiella, Stenotrophomonas Pseudomonas and Lactobacillus [43][44][45][46][47] . Here we isolated bacteria capable of growing on nicotine and anabasine as sole carbon and nitrogen sources (Table 2).…”

“…There are various reports of nicotine degradation by different bacterial genera; for example; Delftia, Klebsiella, Stenotrophomonas Pseudomonas and Lactobacillus [28][29][30]32,35]. Here we have also isolated various bacterial genera (Table 2) that showed the ability to grow on nicotine and anabasine as sole carbon and nitrogen sources and, thus, to degrade these compounds.…”
