Rehabilitation towards functional independence in patient with abdominal tuberculosis undergone abdominal surgery: a case report

Abstract: A small bowel obstruction is one of the most prevalent life-threatening situations. The most common clinical signs are vomiting, stomach discomfort, abdominal distension, and severe constipation. “…Additionally, it is worth noting that physiotherapy treatment plays a crucial role in achieving functional recovery following such a significant surgical intervention. Early mobilization programs have been shown to facilitate recovery after abdominal surgery [ 21 , 25 ]. Active patient participation and targeted scar treatment can help prevent complications, similar to the benefits observed with physiotherapy intervention in the aftermath of cesarean section procedures [ 26 ].…”

“…The physiotherapy treatment focused on mobility exercises for the upper and lower extremities, respiratory physiotherapy, active exercises for overall mobility (such as walking and movements related to basic daily activities), and strength exercises with resistance training [ 21 ]. The pulsed negative pressure procedure, utilizing the Physium ® Vacuum Treatment device, specifically targeted scar tissue to prevent adhesions and myofascial retraction that could limit mobility [ 22 ].…”

“…Active mobilization followed by physiotherapy treatment increases Muscle Strength, and Functional Independence, if initiated within the starting days of ICU admission [ 9 ]. Physiotherapy involving lung fields have generally been a prominent regimen of post-operative treatment following abdominal surgery, to limit or minimize problems such as lung atelectasis, pneumonia, sputum retainment, and restrictive lung pathology with alterations in pulmonary structures [ 10 ]. Implementing the Autogenic Drainage technique into routine chest physiotherapy after upper abdominal surgery improves blood gases exchanges, shortens hospital stay, and is associated with a lower percentage of pulmonary complications.…”
