Reinforcement of single-walled carbon nanotubes on polydimethylsiloxane membranes for CO2, O2, and N2 permeability/selectivity

Abstract: In this study, PDMS incorporated with SWCNTs have been fabricated via solution casting method for industrial applications and characterized by the analyses of SEM, FTIR, TGA, AFM, and MST. The modified membranes were further analyzed for CO2, O2, and N2 gas permeability. The strategic membranes have five different weight ratios (0.013, 0.025, 0.038, 0.050, 0.063) compared to neat PDMS membranes. The even distribution of SWCNTs in PDMS provided results that showed improvement in thermal stability. However, mech… Show more

“…22 In the last decade, PDMS-SWCNT-based composite systems have been produced for specic applications such as saturable absorbers, 18,19 proton radiation shielding, 20 wearable electronics, 23 novel multilayered structures with improved fracture mechanics, 14 porous electrodes, 21 and selective permeation membranes of industrial gases. 24 Homogeneous dispersion of carbon nanotubes (CNT) in a viscous PDMS matrix is a challenge that has been limiting the possibility of upscaling the manufacturing of this material system for multifunctional applications on a large scale. [25][26][27][28] Interfacial characteristics such as ller dispersion, orientation, waviness, and adhesion between CNT and PDMS determine the nal properties of the composite.…”
