In rats and mice, preference for novelty has been correlated with higher sensitivity to the reinforcing effects of many drugs of abuse, including amphetamine, cocaine, nicotine, and alcohol (Piazza et al, 1989; Hooks et al, 1991; Ambrosio et al, 1995; Suto et al, 2001; Nadal et al, 2002; Belin and Deroche-Gamonet, 2012; Manzo et al, 2014).
