Relationship between urban tourism traffic and tourism land use: A case study of Xiamen Island

Abstract: The development of tourism leads to changes in land-use demands and patterns, which are complex and dynamic, in tourist cities. Functional differences in land use produce different travel needs and have different impacts on traffic, especially on tourism. This paper explores the relationship between tourism land use and tourism traffic. Taking Xiamen Island as an example, using multivariable linear regression models, tourism land use is divided into accommodation land use, shopping land use and restaurant land… Show more

“…The development of tourism leads to changes in land-use demands and patterns, which are complex and dynamic in tourist cities (Gao et al, 2021). Therefore, "mixed land-use" patterns are commonly observed in many tourist cities in developing countries (Bordoloi et al, 2013).…”

“…The advantage of geodetectors lies in their high detection sensitivity, and the spatial distributions of the independent variables tend to be similar to those of the dependent variables if the independent variables have an effect on the dependent variable 59 . In the process of detecting the correlation between the independent variable and the dependent variable, both the linear regression model and the geodetector are based on the principle of establishing the statistical relationship between the variables and then analyzing the potential causality; 60 , 61 when linear regression is significant, the geodetector is bound to be significant, and when linear regression is not significant and there is a non-linear enhancement or attenuation of the relationship between the two variables, it can still be detected by the geodetector 62 64 Therefore, in this study, geo-detectors were used to analyze LUCC and its primary drivers.…”

“…Between 2014 and 2019, the market share of city trips in all journeys worldwide grew from 22 % to 30 % (IPK International, 2020, 2015. The increasing number of visitors in connection with the fact that tourism concentrates around certain areas of interest and time periods is leading to growing problems for cities (Gao et al, 2021). Furthermore, tourism has a considerable impact on greenhouse gas emissions, especially due to tourists' arrival and departure (Gühnemann et al, 2021), but also because of intra-destination trips if they are made by car.…”
