Relationship between Vegetation Habitats and Bird Communities in Urban Mountain Parks

Abstract: The coastal areas of southeast China have typical high-density urbanization characteristics, and urban mountain parks are important green spaces in these urban green space systems. Our study was conducted in five typical urban mountain parks in Fuzhou, China. The bird survey was carried out in 25 transects of different vegetation habitats for 10 months, and the vegetation survey was conducted in 25 habitats to investigate the characteristics of bird communities in different vegetation habitats and the causes o… Show more

“…The bird species diversity level in the OKH Forest Park buffer area is moderate (H'= 2,954); this index is influenced by vegetation composition (Xu et al 2022). Scrub or grassland types and young vegetation habitats dominate the area around the OKH Forest Park.…”

“…The vegetation structure is also more heterogeneous in forested habitats with multiple layers of vegetation. The heterogeneity of vegetation structure can be a major factor in determining the richness and diversity of bird species (Xu et al 2022). A more diverse vegetation structure will provide greater opportunities for bird species specializing in particular vegetation layers or compositions (RemeÅ” et al 2022).…”

“…For example, the sample size of the selected urban parks (n = 9) was quite small, the study was conducted only during a single winter and only in one city. Additionally, some other factors, such as noise level [ 77 ], artificial light [ 78 ], recreational activities [ 63 ], other guilds of birds [ 79 ], and vegetation habitats [ 80 ], may influence winter bird assemblage structure in urban parks.…”
