“…For example, a number of researchers have studied the urban sprawl impact on travel demand and choices in Dhaka (Nasrin et al, 2015), Chennai (Srinivasan et al, 2007a,b), Rajkot (Munshi, 2016), in all of India (Ahmad and de Oliveira, 2016), in Kathmandu (Bajracharya et al, 2020), Kabul (Kakar and Prasad, 2020), Lahore (Kamran et al, 2016;Shakeel and Jahanzaib, 2019) and Sri Lanka (Ranasinghe et al, 2015). Very few studies have evaluated the influence of people's attitudes (Javid, 2017a,b;Javid et al, 2021;Mehriar et al, 2021;Masoumi et al, 2022).…”

“…The second influencing factor category is travel choices (home to work distance, mode choice, travel cost). Commuting distance and commuting time have been utilized in several studies (Masoumi, 2021; Masoumi et al ., 2022; Putra, 2018). However, travel time is more of an interest than travel distance since travel time shows the likely influence of congestion (Pandya and Maind, 2017).…”

“…Most of these studies center on developed economies, specifically North America and Europe (Lee and Waddell, 2010; Schirmer et al ., 2014). On the other hand, a significant number of studies have highlighted the importance of geographical context and questioned the applicability of the findings from developed economies to developing economies to formulate urban policies catering to local urban issues (Masoumi, 2021; Masoumi et al ., 2022; Nkeki and Erimona, 2018). The choice of a location is the outcome of the household's preferences and what is offered in the housing market.…”

“…Peoples' perceptions of urban environment, such as aesthetics, accessibility, and convenience, are closely related to their behavior [18,19]. Most existing studies on population settlement conducted to analyze peoples' preference to settle in an urban environment are based on questionnaire survey data [20][21][22][23]. The increase in the types of geospatial data and the development of processing technology have greatly enriched the methods that enable us to describe the characteristics of urban environment from a human perspective.…”
