Visually impaired students and non-visually impaired students can excel in sports activities and appreciate themselves in the surrounding environment. This research will reveal the sports achievement profile of visually impaired students and their psychological impact. Survey research was conducted at SLB Negeri A Citeureup, Cimahi. Survey research used a qualitative research strategy. It used open-ended questions through interviews with 6 participants consisting of the principal, physical education teacher, class teacher, and three visually impaired students. The data collection used purposive sampling and applied Nvivo 12 Plus for Windows to analyze the data. The study results indicated that visually impaired students who excel in sports activities such as swimming and athletics positively impact themselves, especially psychologically. The leading indicators of the psychological elements are confidence, motivation and emotional stability. Still, it needs cooperation between school officials and parents to support psychological peace, especially self-confidence, inspiration, and emotional stability of visually impaired students to get a good life in their environment.

Fitness information-seeking behavior among female university students: A qualitative study

Obsession with the physique and appearance is a by-product of consumer societies. As such, fitness and slimming have now become major concerns of Iranian females. This study endeavors to elaborate on information-seeking behaviors among female students of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences concerning fitness. This study conducted in 2018, employs a qualitative approach using conventional content analysis. The research population includes female students of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, 16 of whom were selected with use of purposive sampling. Data were collected through face-to-face semi-structured interviews and their trustworthiness was confirmed by the criteria of ‘credibility’, ‘confirmability’, ‘dependability’, and ‘transferability’ proposed by Guba and Lincoln. Results reveal four sub-categories and nineteen codes on information-seeking behavior. Sub-categories and codes including information-seeking motivations (achieving physical health, physical appearance, social acceptability, self-confidence, family and friends’ pressure) information resources (electronic information resources, social media, printed information resources, doctors and nutritionists, family and friends, traditional & Islamic medicine, radio and TV), information validation (asking the doctors and specialists, matching the information with scientific references, consulting with friends and relatives) and obstacles to seeking information (lack of time, high costs, distrust, access limitation). by increasing the students’ informational and media literacy, providing authentic and low-cost online resources of information and specialized TV programs, the damages rooted in using invalid information resources concerning fitness can be substantially diminished.

Sejatinya, proses melahirkan memunculkan perasaan bahagia, tetapi kerapkali terjadi perasaan tidak puas akan tubuh dan tidak mampu menerima diri. Studi terdahulu mengkaji body image dan self-acceptance, tetapi dengan subjek penelitian berbeda dan kedudukan variabel yang berbeda. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui kaitan antara self-acceptance dan body image pada perempuan yang telah melahirkan. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif korelasional. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 389 perempuan berusia 22–40 tahun yang telah melahirkan dengan usia kelahiran anak 0–36 bulan. Teknik penentuan sampel adalah purposive sampling. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui skala Self-Acceptance dan skala Body Image. Data penelitian dianalisis dengan uji korelasi Spearman’s rho dan program IBM SPSS Statistics 26. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa self-acceptance memiliki hubungan yang signifikan, kuat, dan bernilai positif dengan body image (p < .001; r = .659). Artinya, makin tinggi self- acceptance, makin tinggi body image. Di sisi lain, makin rendah self-acceptance, makin rendah body image. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi bagi keilmuan psikologi, khususnya mengenai hubungan self-acceptance dengan body image pada perempuan yang telah melahirkan. Hasil penelitian juga membuka perspektif baru pada perempuan yang telah melahirkan bahwa penerimaan diri setelah melahirkan akan membantu terwujudnya citra tubuh yang positif.
