Attention is drawn to some common misconceptions about ambiguous stimuli and to some of the advantages and limitations associated with the use of structured stimuli. It is noted that the use of stimulus dimensions allows for the retention of the positive features of both kinds of stimuli, while yielding additional information from the interaction of the 2. Suggestions for further research are presented, with emphasis upon the measurement of conflict via stimulus dimensions and 3 response correlates, namely selective verbal content, physiological activation, and performance deficit.
