Relationships among total mixed ration nutritional components and reproductive performance in high-producing dairy herds

Abstract: Graphical Abstract Summary: The study evaluated the effect of total mixed ration (TMR) composition on reproductive performance of highproducing commercial dairy herds. Crude protein (CP) and rumen degradable (RDP) and undegradable (RUP) protein had no effect on reproduction. Fat content was positively associated with pregnancy per AI (P/AI) at first service. The key results were related to the effects of nonfiber carbohydrates (NFC) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF), in which… Show more

“…There are several technical factors that can impact the efficiency of OPU-IVEP cycles, but aspects related to animal well-being should also be considered. Indeed, animal comfort, pen size, and housing are experimental elements that should be taken into account when developing nutritional trials in cattle [145]. Given that psychological stress can impair reproductive function [146], including oocyte quality [103,104], the possible stress response associated with the OPU procedure and the taking of other samples should be considered, attempting to minimize severity (e.g., liver biopsy) and duration (serial venepuncture) of sampling along with a reduction in sampling time points.…”
