Relationships between autonomic nerve function and gastric emptying in patients with autoimmune gastritis

Abstract: Most of patients with autoimmune gastritis also have autonomic nerve dysfunction. There is a close relationship between autonomic nervous system dysfunction and delayed gastric emptying. Gastroparesis cardinal symptom index has a high sensitivity and specificity in predicting both autonomic nerve function and delay in gastric emptying.

“…These changes indicate that the thiol/disulfide redox balance shifted to the disulfide bond side in acute pancreatitis [23]. Patients with AIG exhibited altered autonomic function, indicating an important association between autonomic dysfunction and delayed GE [18]. This result and the existence of a positive association between elevated oxidative stress and autonomic dysfunction have led us to examine the relationship between GE and TDH [35,36].…”

“…Codes used for "simple" and "global" score calculations and a score of 7 or higher was accepted as severe autonomic dysfunction (12). Some data included in this study were used in previous studies (7). Table 1 were used in order to define whether autonomic dysfunction occurs in autoimmune gastritis patients.…”

“…The presence of autonomic nervous dysfunction affects the clinical progress of these kinds of diseases (5). There is enough evidence that AIG involves autonomic nervous system and the vagus nerve has a significant role in the control of gastric motility (6,7). Furthermore, gastric emptying is also controlled by vagal and sphlanchnic nerves and intrinsic innervation via the enteric nervous system.…”
