Relaxation patterns of technological residual voltage in the surface layer of high-strength steel when cyclically loaded

Abstract: Experimentally investigated patterns of changes in technological residual stresses under the influence of variable pressure in the surface layer became 30XNS2A. A mathematical model of relaxation of residual compressive stresses created by surface plastic deformation techniques with symmetrical cyclical bending of samples has been proposed. An empirical expression is proposed for assessing the final value of residual stresses as a result of cyclic loading, depending on the stress amplitude of a symmetric cycle… Show more

“…The study of aircraft number-by-number documentation is necessary to clarify the lists of replacements of blocks and assemblies for the period that has passed since the date of the last study of the technical condition of the aircraft, and the logs of failures and malfunctions -in order to collect information on failures and malfunctions of the aircraft for the same period. The possible causes of the identified failures and malfunctions are discussed with the senior engineering staff, including those due to corrosion, aging and biodamage [11]. Meteorological data are necessary to determine the climatic conditions of operation in the region:…”

“…The role or contribution of each of these properties of the surface layer in improving the performance characteristics varies significantly depending on a number of factors, such as the mechanical properties of the material of the part, its geometry in the places of hardening (the presence of structural stress concentrators), the type, level and frequency of external variable loading, external conditions and operating temperature, the need for possible restoration during operation, etc. For example, in the hardening of high-strength steels and alloys operating at normal temperatures and under conditions of multicyclic fatigue, the main role in increasing the endurance limit is given to compressive residual stresses, as well as the thickness of the hardened layer (the depth of the rivet), and to a lesser extent the size of the rivet itself and the roughness of the surface [4,5]. For the same materials, but working in the field of multicyclic fatigue, in which local plastic deformation may appear in local places, leading to relaxation of residual compressive stresses, the role of rivet and roughness increases.…”

“…This assumption significantly simplifies the strength calculation, but leads to some errors, which increase with increasing bolt length for fairly wide hinge-bolt joints. Strengthened circuits are successfully used in design calculations, which meets the requirements of the primary design stage [5,6]. In real connections, due to the bending of the bolt and uneven deformation of the contacting parts of the lugs, a redistribution of the contact load occurs, which leads to a decrease in the maximum bending stresses in the bolt and at the same time to an increase in the maximum contact stresses between the bolt and the joined elements.…”
