Relay Selection for Security Improvement in Cognitive Radio Networks with Energy Harvesting

Abstract: This paper selects an unlicensed relay among available self-powered relays to not only remain but also secure information transmission from an unlicensed source to an unlicensed destination. The relays harvest energy in signals of the unlicensed source and the licensed transmitter. Then, they spend the harvested energy for their relaying operation. Conditioned on the licensed outage restriction, the peak transmission power restriction, Rayleigh fading, and the licensed interference, the current paper proposes … Show more

“…Among various PLS methods, jamming exhibits distinct capabilities of security improvement, without additional complexity [4]. This, along with CRT and RF EH, can assist in addressing the challenges of emerging technologies, such as increased number of wireless services for a massive number of users, effcient spectrum utilization, high energy effciency, and enhanced security [5].…”

“…Based on the latter characteristic, the considered set up is based on the adoption of the PS protocol[6]-[8],[10]-[12],[14] 2. Similar to the vast majority of reported publications (e.g.,[2],[5]-[9],[11],[12],[18]), the present analysis considers the linear energy harvesting model, which still represents the non-linear model over a large range of the input RF power[18]. Therefore, the non-linear energy harvesting model (e.g.,[10],[13]-[15],[19]) may not add signifcant further insights; hence, we defer it to our future works where the achieved performance of the linear energy harvesting model can constitute a benchmark for extensive comparisons.…”
