“…Studies have reported that there was no relationship between RRM1 expression and DFS, OS in adjuvant or advanced settings for BC patients according to immunohistochemical phenotypes (8,27). However, in another study, Pesta et al found longer OS for NSCLC patients with adenocarcinoma had a higher expression of RRM1 in mRNA level (P=0.002) (29).…”

“…A lot of studies revealed that research on single gene cannot judge the prognosis accurately, whereas joint detection of genes can enhance the predictive accuracy (Vilmar et al, 2010;Leng et al, 2012;Pesta et al, 2012). At present, more prospective randomized clinical studies need to be done to select an appropriate molecular genetic indicator combination, consequently providing important references for the formulation of individualized chemotherapy regimens of patients with NSCLC.…”

“…Several biomarkers are known to have opposing prognostic values in early and advanced tumors, such as the DNA repair gene ERCC1. Overexpression of ERCC1 was associated with adverse prognosis in advanced-stage NSCLC (47) but correlated with longer OS in early-stage, surgically resected patients (48). High levels of ERCC1 expression indicate an efficient DNA repair system that can prevent the appearance of new genetic alterations that promote invasiveness and metastases, thus explaining its association with better outcome in early-stage, resected tumors.…”
