Relevance of the Cardiac Biomarkers in Children with Heart Disease Admitted for Severe Cardiac Pathology

Abstract: Heart disease in children can be congenital or acquired. Most congenital heart malformations have specific hemodynamics, producing either volume overload, pressure overload or both, that will finally determine myocardial cell damage, with complications like heart failure and sometime severe pulmonary hypertension. The understanding and management of pediatric patients with heart disease is mandatory in order to have the ability to influence the outcome. Cardiovascular biomarkers play a vital role in adult card… Show more

“…Failure to thrive, congestive heart failure and frequent pulmonary infections, were invariably observed children from literature and in this study ( 3 ). In selected cases, patients with cardiac failure benefit from determining cardiac biomarkers ( 36 ). Pathological values were detected in complex AVSD with severe cardiac involvement in this study.…”

“…A 10 year follow-up [25] from 2003 to 2012 which monitored the co-use of tobacco and marijuana showed that marijuana use increased among past-month tobacco users and tobacco use declined among past-month marijuana users. Recently in a longitudinal trial [26][27][28][29] it was shown that symptoms of depression were related to marijuana use frequency in male users and high frequency of marijuana use was associated with increased cigarette use frequency, especially among males who had higher symptoms of depression.…”

“…The investigation protocol for GERD may include biochemical tests, besides specific diagnostic interventional procedures. Such determinations by means of laboratory tests are essential in the identification and assessment of the disease and have also proven useful for the monitoring of therapy throughout its duration [9].…”
