Reliability and construct validity of the Automated Neuropsychological Assessment Metrics (ANAM) mood scale

Abstract: The reliability and construct validity of the Automated Neuropsychological Assessment Metrics (ANAM) mood scale (AMS) were examined using concurrent, well-validated measures of mood and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with a sample of 210 volunteer college students. The AMS was given in computerized format with multiple adjectives using a visual analog Likert scale yielding seven dimensions of mood including vigor, restlessness, depression, anger, fatigue, anxiety, and happiness. “…For each mood category, respondents are presented with a series of six adjectives (e.g., Shaky ) and asked to rate the degree to which each adjective describes how they feel using a 7‐point Likert scale (0 = not at all to 6 = very much ). Adjective ratings are then averaged to create a score for each mood category (Johnson, Vincent, Johnson, Gilliland, & Schlegel, ).…”

“…The ANAM is the product of 30 years of research and development on serial cognitive function testing by the US military . The ANAM was originally developed for use with adults, but early versions have been used in single studies in patients as young as age 13 years . The success of the ANAM in assessing cognitive change and screening for cognitive impairment across a wide range of military and civilian applications has led to its increasing clinical use .…”

“…23 Construct validity and testretest reliability for ANAM measures can be found elsewhere. 24,25 Throughput, which is the number of correct responses per minute, was used to measure performance on each cognitive task. 26 D¢, a measure of signal detection, was used for the go-no-go task.…”
