Reliability and Validity of the Cross-Culturally Adapted German Oxford Hip Score

Abstract: There is currently no German version of the Oxford hip score. Therefore we sought to cross-culturally adapt and validate the Oxford hip score for use with German-speaking patients (OHS-D) with osteoarthritis of the hip using a forward-backward translation procedure. We then assessed the new score in 105 consecutive patients (mean age, 63.4 years; 48 women) undergoing THA. We specifically determined: the number of fully completed questionnaires, reliability, concurrent validity by correlation with the WOMAC, Ha… Show more

“…At baseline, patients completed crossculturally adapted and validated German versions of the following questionnaires: (1) Oxford Hip Score (OHS) [7,29], which consists of 12 questions on hip pain and function in the past 4 weeks. Each item uses a 5-point response scale with values from 0 to 4.…”

“…Clinical and radiographic followups were scheduled at 6 weeks, 6 months, and 12 to 24 months after surgery. In November 2011, we obtained current Oxford Hip Scores and UCLA Activity Scores from the four patients who could be located [43,44]. A followup MRI was performed 6 months postoperatively to assess lesion healing and resolution of bone marrow edema.…”
