Reliability of redundant ductile structures with uncertain system failure criteria

Abstract: Current reliability based approaches to structural design are typically element based: they commonly include uncertainties in the structural resistance, applied loads and geometric parameters, and in some cases in the idealized structural model. Nevertheless, the true measure of safety is the structural systems reliability which must consider multiple failure paths, load sharing and load redistribution after member failures, and is beyond the domain of element reliability analysis. Identification of system fai… Show more

“…However, they have not presented a field study. Einstein [3], Mizrak Ozfirat [8], Onder et al [11], Kasaeyan et al [19], Xue et al [20], Bhattacharja [37] and Aghajani [38] consider risk classification using different risk analysis methods. However, in this study, in-depth initiating event analysis is made using ETA.…”

“…This analysis has been extensively used in risk and safety analyses in many different industries. Five basic steps are used to develop an event tree [5,[34][35][36][37][38]: identifying the initiating event, determining countermeasures, building the event tree, evaluation of the tree, and risk classification.…”

“…A distributed information system, in particular a client-server architecture, has been developed as a result of modern advances in information technology and high-load computing systems. An “information system with client-server architecture” refers to one where functional components interact in a “request–response” manner [ 41 , 42 ]. In such systems, servers usually contain the database and software, while the client components usually include corresponding hardware and software parts, as well as client interfaces.…”
