Reliability of the weight-bearing ankle dorsiflexion range of motion measurement using a smartphone goniometer application

Abstract: Background Weight-bearing ankle dorsiflexion range of motion measurement (weight-bearing lunge test) is gaining in popularity because it mimics lower extremity function in daily physical activities. The purpose of the study is to assess the intra-rater and the inter-rater reliability of the weight-bearing ankle dorsiflexion range of motion measurement with a flexed knee using a smartphone application Spirit Level Plus installed on an Android smartphone. M… Show more

“…WB-DFROM was conducted to evaluate the ankle dorsiflexion motion angle of subjects. WB-DFROM was used to simulate the function position of ankle dorsiflexion in daily physical activity [ 36 ]. Before the test, the researcher marked the wall and the perpendicular floor with colored tape.…”

“…Report performing any type of risk evaluation prior to utilising a work-related application(5)Many allied health practitioners rely on their ability to assess range of motion of jointAlthough the traditional Goniometer is still the most frequently applied clinical test for measuring joint range of motion, advances in mobile advancements provide doctors with new assessment options.Nevertheless, the accuracy and authenticity of these cellphones and applications remain somewhat in doubt. (7)The Traditional goniometer is a typical methodology for evaluating range of motion (ROM) as part of joint movements. It has various limitations, such as the physician's participation of both hands, which leads to hand instability and inaccuracy.…”
