A reliability-oriented model of relation of thermoelement branch geometry (ratio of height to cross-sectional area) to cooling capabilities of two-cascade thermoelectric devices of various designs has been developed. Researches have been carried out for the maximum temperature difference regime and series connection of thermoelement branches in cascades. Analytical expressions have been obtained which allow determining maximum cooling capabilities of a thermoelectric two-cascade device, intensity of failures and probability of no-failure operation depending on the ratio of the number of thermoelements in cascades. A relationship between the ratio of the number of thermoelements to the intermediate temperature and relative operating current in cascades is analyzed. Possibility of increasing of maximum temperature difference by choosing of optimal geometry of thermoelements branches in cascades has been grounded. The ratio of length to section area of elements of the first stage more than the ratio of length to section area of the second stage that differs from traditional equality of these relations at the set operational current. The proposed approach makes it possible to estimate the maximum temperature drop and predict the reliability indices of two-cascade thermoelectric coolers of various designs for different operating conditions and to conduct optimized design of thermoelectric systems for ensuring thermal regimes of electronic equipment.
