Similarly, a 2002 study of Japanese Americans from Washington and California (two states with sizeable concentrations of Japanese Americans) found that 44.9% identified as Buddhist, 36.7% as Protestant, and 3% Catholic (Kashima et al, 2002). Despite the generally stable percentages of Buddhists and Christians (primarily Protestants) over time, Fugita and Fernandez (2002) note that Buddhist Japanese Americans historically have faced more challenging experiences in the United States.…”
