Remote Access to Images and Control Information of a Supervision System Through GPRS

Abstract: Real time access to control information of supervision systems in large installations is extremely important in order to be able to act in time to critical situations. In this paper the viability of remote access to this information via GPRS is evaluated. Also evaluated are the request protocol image reception and information about the state of the equipment in the system, as well as the average transfer rate in order to establish the update of the information in real time, obtaining update times, for image an… Show more

“…It is an extension of GSM (General System for Mobile Communications) technology and has been designed for applications which go further than voice transmission, where it is necessary to transmit and receive data (see [18]). In [19], a study detailed of the transmission of images and states in real time using GPRS to access at the information by means the PDA has been made. The PDA, Compaq iPAQ 3970 has been used.…”

“…16, the variability of the transference rate (Kbps) over a period of 5 days is shown, where the measurements have been taken between 9:00 h and 18:00 h with intervals of 15 min in the city of Alcoy. In [19], these measurements are described in detail.…”

“…The traffic on these networks is composed of control information and the transmission of images. These types of networks are spreading in metropolitan environments, and are usually formed of a principal node denominated central station, different remote stations, and remote clients who are able to remotely monitor or even control the working of the system, see [2,3]. To improve the use of the system, facilitate maintenance and to improve the response to alerts and potential risk situations, the remote stations must have the capacity to exchange information on states between each other and with the central station.…”

“…In this chapter, the requirements that this type of applications make on VAN networks, the different type of technologies that are normally employed and the capacities that they can offer are analyzed. Public networks and Global Wireless networks are analysed in (Sempere et al, 2003) and in (Sempere et al, 2004;Albero et al, 2005) respectively, so in this chapter an special focus is done in WiMAX networks, since they have enormous potential in this area, an area which up to now has been studied very little. Also, the real implementation of a VAN network for the purification network of Valencia City is presented and a video can be seen in extension 1, which shows the real capabilities of this kind of network.…”
