Remote Real Time Well Testing—Experience in the Grove Gas Field in the North Sea

Abstract: Accurate well test data acquired throughout an appropriately designed test program is critical to confidently characterize a reservoir. Achieving this requires the right DST string selection or completion and stimulation designs, surface test set up / facilities, and the ability to rapidly handle dynamic changes in flow regimes. Well testing is inherently complex due to the interaction between these various elements. "Successful failures" in well testing is unfortunately not uncommon and results from each elem… Show more

“…Real-time well testing services with an established infrastructure, defined workflows, and 24/7 collaborative environments are already in practice providing tangible results (Sikandar et al, 2010). The fully operational Artificial Lift Surveillance Centre (ALSC) based in Inverurie, UK has also demonstrated the value of 24/7 ESP surveillance and monitoring in terms of extended ESP run life and reduction in downtime.…”

“…During the first year of operations, the Aberdeen OSC provided support to more than twelve well test operations performed in the North Sea. With tangible results and value provided to the operators, this operational methodology quickly became a standard to ensure that data quality and well test objectives are achieved safely and efficiently (Sikandar et al, 2010). During this time, real-time well testing services has gained momentum to take its place among the other oilfield services delivered data in real-time to the final users.…”
