Removal of anionic dye Congo red from aqueous environment using polyvinyl alcohol/sodium alginate/ZSM-5 zeolite membrane

Abstract: In this study, a novel PVA/SA/ZSM-5 zeolite membrane with good regeneration capacity was successfully prepared by solvent casting technique. The properties of the membranes were assessed by employing different characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), optical microscopy (OP), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), contact angle and universal testing machine (UTM). XRD, TGA and UTM results revealed that the crysta… Show more

“…Radoor et al (2020) obtained a novel PVA/SA/ZSM-5 zeolite membrane with a good regeneration capacity via a solvent casting technique for dye adsorption, adopting a model anionic dye, Congo red [115]. The proposed membranes also exhibited antibacterial features against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli) [116].…”

“…The PDADMAC modified ZSM-5 zeolite so obtained has been designated as PZSM-5. For comparison studies, we synthesized conventional ZSM-5 without adding meso template, and are denoted as ZSM-5 (Radoor, Karayil, Jayakumar, Parameswaranpillai, & Siengchin, 2021;Radoor, Karayil, Parameswaranpillai, & Siengchin, 2020b;Sabarish, Jasila, Aswathy, Jyotishkumar, & Suchart, 2020;Sabarish & Unnikrishnan, 2019, 2020. Schematic representation of micro/mesopores formation in modified ZSM-5 zeolite is shown in Scheme 1.…”

“…Biological contamination is one of the major issues nowadays that developed various healthrelated problems such as diarrhea, cholera, and bacterial infectious disease [7][8][9][10][11][12] . In this context, treatment or confiscation of such contaminants (both chemical and biological) is necessary for pure drinking water.…”
