Removal of Cadmium From Contaminated Soil Using Iron (Iii) Oxide Nanoparticles Stabilized With Polyacrylic Acid

Abstract: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of Fe3O4 nanoparticle, stabilized with polyacrylic acid on cadmium removal from the contaminated soils. To investigate the effect of important parameters, including nanoparticle concentration, pH, contact time, and the ratio of contaminated soil mass to nanofluid volume, several batch tests were performed. The maximum removal rate (100%) of cadmium was obtained in the following conditions: nanofluid concentration = 500 ppm, pH = 6.5, contact time = 24 hr and the … Show more

“…The significant origins of HMs in animal systems are (1) consumption of polluted water and feed, (2) polluted air, (3) soil, (4) contaminated types of equipment, and (5) improper manufacturing practices (Caggiano et al, 2005). Also, levels of metal in milk increased with increasing the animal age (Mohamadiun et al, 2018). They added that the animal body acts as an effective biological filter and accumulates the metals brought by the feed into the bone tissue rather than the milk.…”

“…For the last decades, there has been a renewed, continuous, ever-increasing interest in nanostructured materials, especially in magnetic nanoparticles (NP), 1 as they provide the critical building blocks for the booming of nanoscience and nanotechnology. This basic research has been triggered by the potential applications of magnetic NP in both health [2][3][4][5] (e.g., diagnosis and therapy) and ultra-high density magnetic recording 6 (e.g., bit patterned media 7,8 and pre-patterned substrates for thin film deposition 9,10 ), and lately in environmental applications, [11][12][13][14] for example, in water remediation. [15][16][17] On the one hand, this outburst has been fueled by the development and optimization of synthesis methods that allow obtaining magnetic NP of high crystalline quality, with shape and size control, together with the ability of binding them to a variety of linkers for drug delivery, [18][19][20][21][22][23] magnetic hyperthermia, 2,[24][25][26][27] cell internalization, 28 cell separation and purification, 29,30 or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents.…”

“…Children are at danger for impaired growth, inferior intelligent quotient, reduced responsiveness duration, hyperactivity, and mental depreciation while adults more often than not encounter decreased reaction period, deficiency of memory, nausea, insomnia, anorexia, and fragility of the joints due to Pb exposure (Bakshi et al, 2018;Proshad et al, 2019). Cadmium (Cd) in the body is understood to impinge on a number of enzymes and it is responsible for itai itai disease, whose warning sign are excruciating osteomalacia (bone disease) linked with kidney failure (Proshad et al, 2019;Mohamadiun et al, 2018). Elevated concentration of Pb and Cd in the soil poses threats to human and animal health by leaching these metals from the soil into water and consumption of edible plants grown in the contaminated soil.…”
