Removal of heavy metal from polluted river water using aquatic macrophytes Salvinia sp

Abstract: Concentrations of trace metallic element as well as macronutrients were measured in water and plants from pond water. The aquatic macrophyte Salvinia sp. was evaluated for its trace metals removal potential in river water under laboratory conditions. The experiment were performed using several healthy acclimatized plants Salvinia sp. The water and grown plants were collected from ponds. For the trace element removals test, 30-35 grams of fresh aquatic plants were grown in river water into a greenhouse for ten … Show more

“…Efeitos da toxicidade do zinco em folhas de Salvinia auriculata... -Quiñones et al (2005) estudaram a remoção de macro e micronutrientes por Salvinia sp. em ambiente natural e constataram que a planta acumulou, na matéria seca, em 18 dias de exposição em água com 5,8 µg L -1 desse metal, 6,8 µg g -1 de zinco.…”

“…A dry-biomass digestion was carried out by the addition of 5.0 ml (65%) HNO 3 and 0.5 ml (30%) H 2 O 2 onto 0.5 g of leaves or roots in digestion glassware and by heating on a hot plate (Pettersson and Olsson 1998;Salvador et al 2004). Finally, de-ionized water was added up into digested sample to reach a total volume of 10 ml and it was stored (Salvador et al 2004;Espinoza-Quiñones et al 2005).…”

“…These pollutants cause serious problems and risks to the environment and man himself (Shanbehzadeh et al, 2014;Espenoza-Quinones et al, 2005). Water resources are among the most critical resources and the importance of water resources, particularly surface water (rivers), in meeting the water need of humans, animals and industries underscores the need to protect them against contaminations (Shanbehzadeh et al, 2014).…”
