Dye pollution has always been a serious concern globally, threatening the lives of humans and the ecosystem. In the current study, treated lignocellulosic biomass waste supported with FeCl3/Zn(NO3)2 was utilized as an effective composite for removing Reactive Orange 16 (RO16). SEM/EDAX, FTIR, and XRD analyses exhibited that the prepared material was successfully synthesized. The removal efficiency of 99.1% was found at an equilibrium time of 110 min and dye concentration of 5 mg L−1 Adsorbent mass of 30 mg resulted in the maximum dye elimination, and the efficiency of the process decreased by increasing the temperature from 25 to 40 °C. The effect of pH revealed that optimum pH was occurred at acidic media, having the maximum dye removal of greater than 90%. The kinetic and isotherm models revealed that RO16 elimination followed pseudo-second-order (R2 = 0.9982) and Freundlich (R2 = 0.9758) assumptions. Surprisingly, the performance of modified sawdust was 15.5 times better than the raw sawdust for the dye removal. In conclusion, lignocellulosic sawdust-Fe/Zn composite is promising for dye removal.

In this study, the reuse of Citrus fortunella (CF) plant waste, an agricultural product, was evaluated within the scope of sustainability. In this context, selenium nanoparticles (CF‐Se NPs) were synthesized from CF waste extracts and crystal violet (CV) dye was removed. The characteristic structure of the synthesized CF‐Se NPs was determined by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X‐ray (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV–vis spectroscopy, and point of zero charge (pHpzc). Batch adsorption tests were applied to determine the effect of the synthesized CF‐Se NPs on CV removal. Four different kinetic and isotherm models were examined using error analysis functions. While the particle size of CF‐Se NPs was determined as 27.58 nm, the pHpzc value was calculated as 9.40, the average surface charge distribution was −24.1 mV, and mass losses were 9.03% and 13.42% at 334.99 and 739.21°C, respectively. The most suitable kinetic and isotherm model for CV removal with CF‐Se NPs was determined to be pseudo‐second‐order with a R2‐value of 0.999 and Freundlich with R2‐value of 0.993, and the qmax was calculated as 23.55 mgCV/gCF‐SeNPs. The effectiveness of CF‐Se NPs synthesized from waste in CV removal is a remarkable issue in terms of sustainable production.

A fixed‐bed column study was studied to assess the performance of sodium bicarbonate modified Bambusa Tulda to remove Safranin from wastewater. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy analysis shows the existence of carboxyl as well as hydroxyl bonding and grouping. Scanning Electron Microscope analysis shows the enhanced structure of Bambusa Tulda before and after chemical modification, and Energy dispersive X‐ray analysis shows the existence of Na, O after chemical modification with sodium bicarbonate. The maximum removal was found at higher bed depth and low flow rate. The breakthrough analysis time and exhaust time increase with an increase in bed height. At 5 ml/min flow rate, with initial concentration of 50 mg/L and bed height of 15 cm of adsorbent, shows best removal rate of safranin dye in column analysis. The Bed Depth Service Time (BDST) model and Thomas model analysis remained similar with experiment results, which indicates that they are suitable for the design of column study. It is being concluded that sodium bicarbonate modified Bambusa Tulda is an effective, low cost and readily available adsorbent for the adsorption of Safranin from wastewater.
