“…Ionic flotation can be used both for the treatment of wastewater and for the recovery of precious or rare metal ions. As surfactants/collectors were studied sodium dodecyl sulfate [42], polyethylenimine [43], hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide [44], 4-thiazolidinone derivatives [45], etc. This treatment method does not require high energy consumption and sophisticated and large equipment, it is easy to operate, and can be used for selective separations presenting high efficiency and obtaining low amounts of sludge.…”

“…Several approaches have been investigated to resolve this issue, including applying mixed surfactants to decrease the CMC [118], utilizing adsorption methods on the permeate to remove the surfactant in the permeate [119], synthesizing cross-linked micelles [116], and using surfactant and polymer mixture, which forms colloidal aggregates [120]. A list of suggested improvements of MEUF is shown in Table 5.…”

“…In previous studies, branched polyethylenimine (PEI) and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) were used to form PSAs to remove and recover metals from metallic effluents. Shen et al [14,16] reported that up to 99% of Cd 2+ , Zn 2+ , and Cr 3+ ions were removed at ppm contamination levels under optimum dosages of PSAs in the presence of inorganic and organic contaminants. Furthermore, 97% of Cd 2+ was removed at ppb contamination levels.…”

“…In previous studies, PEI has been used as the cationic polymer to form PSAs [14][15][16]. As is known, PEI, with repeated amino groups, presents as a positively charged polyelectrolyte in an acidic environment, while it presents as a neutral polyelectrolyte at high pH; consequently, its interactions with surfactants or with metals can vary depending on the pH.…”
