Renal transplantation in man: A review

“…These drugs cause marked atrophy of the thymus after 2-3 weeks (Calne, 1963b). Starzl(1963) also found no advantage from thymectomy or splenectomy in dogs.…”

“…This will probably result in a fall of blood-pressure to normal, provided dialysis is reasonably frequent. The Kiil dialyser, as used extensively by Scribner and his colleagues (Cole, Pollard, and Murray, 1963)~ seems to be very satisfactory for this purpose and, although the dialysis takes approximately 12 hours, this machine requires little priming with blood and the cellophane membrane is relatively cheap. Bower (1963) has devised a suction apparatus which reduces the pressure over the bath so that excess fluid can be easily removed from the patient.…”
