Renin and erythropoietin release in renal allotransplantation states

Abstract: Erythropoietin (ESF) and renin assays were serially performed in untreated and azathioprine-treated dog renal allografts. ESF levels accurately reflected the progressive decline in renal function, and degree of allograft rejection. ESF elevations did not correlate with the level of hematocrit, or degree of azotemia or hypertension.
